Instillating or still insulating

Still working on the loft insulation, tomorrow should be the last day, as it takes so much time to cut each piece and fit it. Reason why is the people at Leduc Truss made the ceiling spacing at 19.2 inches on centre which is non standard for insulation widths but standard for them. It meant that every piece of insulation had to be special cut to fit, as insulation comes only in 15 1/2 and 24 inch widths. So we had to buy 24 inch and cut each of them down, and as there are 26 spaces and 10 pieces of insulation per space, resulting in a awful lot of work .

The 8 feet of flat ceiling is recommended to be R50 plus so I have put R35 in between the rafters and then added the cut offs split in half at 90 degrees (R35/2= R17 + or -)to bring it up to approximately R50, which you see in the photo.

Bobs Away

Today was Bob's last day of this visit, ah, work/slave event. His help was outstanding and was greatly appreciated. Thank You! Bob.

This photo is to show that I did at least let him sit down once in a while, heavy on the once.

We did have another successful insulating day and have most of the walls in the loft and part of its ceiling done.

We wish Bob (aka GOOP MASTER, INSULATE man, VAPOR man, DUCT WORK man, or WALLE) a safe trip home to Regina. Thank you Bob for all your help, Jim and Kathleen.

Pinko Day

Bob and I had a very insulating day. Bob completed the insulation install on the main floor, less the sun room as it does not have Tyvek yet.

I worked on the loft walls.

Missed Tuesday

Missed entering info on Tuesday. We had a terrible snow storm all day, 15-20 cm of snow and rain, Bob and I worked on installing heating ducts into the floor truss area of the basement.

The wind was so bad it was sending snow over the insulation wind stops on the main floor. The snow was coming at the north side of the house, horizontally. Weather warmed up in the pm and by today there was just a little snow left.
We anticipated the bad weather coming and wrapped the outside with Tyvek between last Thursday and this past Monday, to keep any insulation we installed dry.

Modification Day

Bob was able to work out the measurements required to modify the loft ceiling/wall area and today we completed the task of adding the 50 plus 2x4's and plywood gussets to make it thick enough to handle the R35 insulation we will be adding.

We spent the afternoon adding some of the insulation draft stops into the wall ceiling cavity, many more to go!

Anyone seen - Wall-E

Bob and I had a very productive day, Bob worked on installing small wooden strips onto the loft wall studs. During construction I did not get them perfectly aligned, out a 1/4 inch here and there - but no more, Bob took care of that. He then worked out the modification we have to do to get 10 1/2 inches of insulation onto the angled part of the loft wall/ceiling.

I spent most of the day installing insulation into the main floor walls.

As we step along

Had the plumbing inspector out this week and with a couple of minor changes, which were carried out - we are now good to go. Plumbing rough in - Done!

So it was then on to the next step which was installing heating pipes from the loft to the basement through the trusses and walls. Heating rough in - Done!

Fortunately for me, Kathleen's brother Bob has come up to help us for couple of weeks and did the vapour barrier prep work, which was installing the picky little pieces of plastic required to connect the loft floor to the main floor ceiling. Prep work Done!
THANK YOU- BOB - THANK YOU
Bob's new title is the "goop master" as he was the one having to deal with the black acoustic chauk aka"black death" as the rest of us know it. But he did have me worried when he first snapped on those rubber surgical gloves and came after me. But I new I was safe as I was covered in ABS pipe glue and threatened to glue him to a pipe.

We then moved on to framing and setting in the bath tubs. - Done
Last week there was a clearance sale on insulation at Home Depot so I bought some of the product that we will require. Any idea what is next on the list - yes you are right, insulating we will go!

We took Easter Saturday off and went to visit with Brother David and family in Calgary, niece Laura-Lee was home from Minneapolis, had a good visit with everyone, yes ate well too. It was great to see them all again. We picked up my sister Brenda who was there from Regina visiting and brought her back to the pasture to pass judgment on the work so far -
Family Judgment - Done!

Plumbing Away and Away and Away

I stalled for a few days with the plumbing, worked on some final details on the stairwell to the basement and furring in the dormers instead. So everyone knows, the roof truss people designed the house layout so that I would have to add 1 inch strips to the roof truss (Beams) to match the wall thickness of the dormers, not that I don't have enough to do.

Had a young man out today ( journeyman plumber) to help me get on track again with the plumbing, so look out now. One bathroom down, two to go...Oh ya, and the kitchen and the laundry room. Why is it that we can't have an outhouse and haul water from the well like in the good, old days? Aside from the fact that Kathleen would hurt me, that is.
